Yet he has not left himself without testimony. He has shown kindness by giving you rain from
heaven and crops in their season. Acts 14:17 NIV
How much harder life would be if we had to rely on hunting
and gathering in an environment of uncertain seasons. But in most of the world, people have been
able to grow crops in accordance with their climate. That has allowed people to settle in one place
and build communities. In all the
wealthy countries of the world, the early economy was based on agriculture.
Some years, because of poor weather, crops fail but if I look at the overall
picture, it is one where people could realistically expect to harvest food
after a season of growing.
Nature provision is a reflection of God’s provision. He provides for my physical needs of water
and food, and he provides for my emotional and spiritual needs as well. The
Bible often uses the imagery of God’s spirit as living water. Every day we use water. It is essential for
us. I need God’s spirit just as much.
