You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do
not give way. Psalm 23: 36 NIV
I know how easy it is to turn an ankle if a path is rough
and narrow, and how painful a sprained ankle can be. The narrow way of following God is still
plenty wide enough for us and this verse suggests that it is free from things
that would trip us up. The path may go uphill and be difficult but God doesn’t
deliberately hide hazards in our way. The path is clear of loose rocks and
jutting tree roots that suddenly upend us.
In so many ways, I see God clearing the way. Just today, he unexpectedly opened the way
for me to see a good eye specialist on a regular basis. He encouraged someone I
know to take a course and before they were finished, a job related to the
course presented itself. Looking back on my life, there are so many occasions
when the timing was right for things to happen in a positive way. I’ve had uphills to climb and sometimes
darkness but the longer I’m on this road the more confidently I walk. He wants me to be able to walk boldly along
his way.
