Come let us sing for joy to the Lord, let us shout aloud to
the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1 NIV
I recently went to the funeral of a Christian friend. It
was a real celebration of his life. Stories were told about him, but the focus of
the service was his faith in Christ. Lots of friends and family were there and
it was really joyful when we sang his favourite hymns. We not only celebrated his life on earth, but
we were able to celebrate his new life in heaven, face to face with God.
What a happy thought to know that this messy, sometimes
painful life, is only for a time and that in the new life we will truly be with
God. And we will be singing in love to
God, just as we sometimes do in this life when our hearts are filled with his
joy.
The Rock of our salvation: loving, solid, permanent,
supportive.
